Types of tiles.
There is a range of different types of tiles that we offer to fit for our customers. These include ceramic tiles, porcelain tiles and natural stone tiles. There are also different tiles for walls and floors.
In terms of quality it is always worth spending that little extra and going for the higher end of tile. This not only reduces the amount of wastage but it allows us to display the tiles to give a great finish. Cheaper, thinner tiles tend to break more easily when handled and cut. The colour used also fades a great deal faster.
The most impressive tiles are natural stone. These are generally the most expensive to buy and fit because they have to be specially treated prior to fitting as well as having some form of protective lacquer applied following grouting. They are not recommended for bathroom floors on timber joists. Even with protective matting systems they can crack over a short period of time and need replacing.
The photograph above shows a hallway tiled by DKM Developments Ltd. The tiles used were ceramic tiles in a traditional Victorian style. The grout was a BAL Microban smoky grey colour. This grout reduces the risk of mould growth over time and is hard wearing like the tiles. The door bar was custom made from a reclaimed piece of oak cut to size, planed and sanded then finished with Danish Oil to complement the adjoining floor and traditional style of the tiles.
